“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. In the year 2004, the Indian Tourism industry saw a new dawn with the introduction of Deccan Odyssey, one of the most enamored luxury trains in India. With cooperation between the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Indian Railways, the first Indian luxury train to travel across the Deccan plateau was launched. Deccan Odyssey history is also as interesting as its journey itself. It took the MTDC and Indian Railways several months to finalize the design of this blue Limousine on rain and also years of relentless efforts to turn the dream into a beautiful reality. On January 16, 2004, this blue Limousine on rail embarked on its maiden journey from the eye-popping Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai.
A beautiful medley of the old world charm and modern day sophistication characterizes each journey onboard Deccan Odyssey. The traditional and cultural characteristics of Maharashtra is well represented by the inside décor of the train which is all studded with intricate artworks on wood and metal. The grass works also have found a beautiful place there. With vintage carriages, tantalizing cuisines and lively onboard entertainment, this royal train journey make the guests cherish each moment of their voyage with full enthusiasm.
